Moving Forward - The Solution

My two-part solution to overcome the challenges in youth sports regarding finances and social status:

1. Reduce the Role of Finances

In order to provide all children with equal opportunity to compete at the next level without any financial burdens, we must work to enforce the following:

  • Reduce the existence of high-paying academies that set their focus on the financial income of their programs, rather than the development of their players. By limiting the increase of such organizations, it puts all kids on a level playing field by solely competing for their local association. Not only does this eliminate the influence of money, but it also ensures that the best players are competing against one another, as there would be one main league available to players.

  • Waive tryout fees to allow all kids to have a fair shot to showcase their talents. There are many instances where children are unable to play competitive sports simply because their families cannot afford the cost of the evaluations. By removing payments during tryouts, more athletes would have the opportunity to prove themselves worthy of a spot on a competitive team without their financial situation determining their fate.
